Privacy Policy
Quran Companion is a Quran reading, prayer-times and dhikr app for Android, published by Alazka Technologies ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app stores, what leaves your phone, and how to delete it.
The short version: everything you do in the app stays on your phone unless you choose to create an account. We never sell data, and the only third-party SDK that collects anything is Google AdMob for ads in the free version.
1. Data the app stores on your phone
The app keeps the following on the device only, in its private app storage:
- Reading position, daily reading goal and progress history
- Favourite ayahs, folders, and personal notes on ayahs
- Tasbeeh (dhikr) session history and favourite duas
- App settings: theme, font size, reciter, reminder time, Hijri date adjustment
- Prayer-time settings and the last location you chose or allowed, so prayer times and the Azan alarm work offline
- Downloaded recitation audio files
Uninstalling the app deletes all of it. Downloaded audio is excluded from Android cloud backup.
2. Optional account and cloud sync
You can use the whole app without an account. If you sign up with an email address and password, the app creates an account with Firebase Authentication (a Google service) and syncs the items below to Cloud Firestore so they follow you to another phone:
| Synced data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Email address, display name | Identify your account and greet you in the app |
| Favourites, notes, folders | Restore them on another device |
| Reading progress and daily goal history | Keep streaks and statistics across devices |
| Tasbeeh sessions, favourite duas, app settings | Same as above |
Each user's data is stored under their own account and protected by security rules so that only that signed-in user can read or write it. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and are never visible to us. Firebase processes this data on Google's infrastructure under Google's privacy and security terms.
3. Location
Prayer times and the Qibla direction need a location. You can type a city instead of granting location permission. If you allow location, it is read on the device when you open the Prayer or Qibla screens, and the last reading is saved locally so alarms keep working offline. Location is never uploaded to our servers and never shared.
4. Advertising
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. AdMob may collect the advertising ID and device information to show and measure ads, as described in Google's advertising policies. On first launch the app asks for consent where the law requires it (for example in the EEA and UK) through Google's User Messaging Platform; you can change your choice in Settings. Subscribing to Premium removes ads entirely. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings.
5. Purchases
Premium is an optional subscription billed through Google Play. Google processes the payment; the app only receives confirmation that the subscription is active. We do not see or store card details.
6. Audio and Quran text
The Quran text ships inside the app. Recitation audio is streamed or downloaded from third-party hosts (QuranicAudio.com and mp3quran.net). Those requests include your IP address, as any download does, but no account information.
7. What we do not do
- No analytics or tracking SDKs other than AdMob's own ad measurement
- No selling, renting or sharing of personal data with third parties
- No access to contacts, photos, microphone or camera
8. Deleting your data
Open Settings → Privacy → Delete Account in the app. This removes your cloud data, deletes the account, and clears personal data from the phone. You can also request deletion without the app on the account deletion page. Signing out removes synced data from that phone but keeps the account.
9. Children
The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. An account is only created when someone deliberately signs up with an email address. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security and retention
Data in transit to Firebase is encrypted (TLS). Synced data is kept for as long as your account exists and is deleted when you delete the account. On-device data is kept until you clear it or uninstall the app. Email requests we receive are kept only as long as needed to resolve them.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version is published at this address with a new effective date, and the app's Settings screen links here.
